Amaro Caldo
The Answer to Cold Winter Days & Nights, Amaro Caldo is The Only Choice
You most likely haven’t come across this wonderful, cold weather classic because of two reasons: You are still not giving Amaro a chance or haven’t been offered it, or you’ve never visited Italy and been welcomed by a family who has lived their whole entire life there. This drink gained popularity in New York, thanks to Joe Campanale, who runs Fausto. This is a tradition laced family generational bevvie, consumed in the cold months. Amaro and Hot water combine to really lift all the plenty of botanicals, roots, citrus peels that make up Amaro. Amaro recipes change based off family, with many of the recipes being passed down from generation to generation. We love an amaro that is bittersweet and a bit funky.
Amaro Caldo
3-4 oz of Amaro (Amaro dell’Etna or Amaro Braulio)
Boiling Hot Water to the top (typically 4-6 oz)
Build in ceramic glass that can handle boiling hot water. Coffee Mugs are also doable. We love to garnish this similarly to a Hot Toddy, Lemon or an Orange slice with cloves or a Cinnamon stick.
